Promoting Growth Mindset and Self-Regulation through Digital Portfolios

"The only person you should try to be better than,
is the person you were yesterday."

The goal of this project is to research, implement and share methods in which to nurture a classroom climate of growth mindset by the means of student-driven digital portfolios.

Who we are:

Maddalena Shipton is an experienced elementary teacher for the Toronto Catholic District School Board. She works with a true passion for teaching and life-long learning. Maddalena values nurturing a co-operative, inclusive classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks and working collaboratively. She regularly differentiates her teaching with a focus on high-yield approaches, fostering a classroom community and promoting appreciation for individual differences. She has also been involved in a variety of ministry funded initiatives in which she worked as a Curriculum Consultant and Writer, Project Leader and Professional Development Network Presenter, with a focus on 21 Century Learning competencies, Accessibility Awareness and Differentiated Instruction. Finally, working collaboratively with others in the form of Professional Learning Communities has also become second nature to Maddalena. She has led teacher/author teams in composing professional development materials, facilitated numerous workshops and provided supportive leadership to beginning teachers in her role as an NTIP Mentor.

Mr. Daniele Montanaro has been working with the Toronto Catholic District School Board since 2003.  He is always searching for innovative ways to personalize the learning experience for his students.  Daniele is a SMART Exemplary Educator and has leveraged SMART technology throughout his career to inspire primary, junior and intermediate students to become 'techies'!
